An Update on Knox Youth Dinner & Food Bank

Dear Knox Church Family:

It is with sadness that we recently received the resignation of Bill and Vicki Wood from the leadership of Knox Youth Dinner and Food Bank (KYDFB). You may have received this news elsewhere but we wanted to make sure to share it with our whole church family. With the demands of leading a complex ministry and, at times, a shortage of needed assistance, Bill and Vicki considered stepping back from leadership for several years. Now given the need for KYDFB to implement the Leading with Care standards of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, Bill and Vicki sensed this was the right time for them to transition out of leadership and hand-off the ministry to others.

(Leading with Care is the policy of the Presbyterian Church in Canada that aims to provide safe environments for all persons, including children, youth, vulnerable adults, and those who minister to and with them. Leading with Care is strongly supported by the Knox Church leadership and is an integral part for all our ministries).

Everyone at Knox feels the loss of their leadership – it’s hard to imagine KYDFB without Bill and Vicki. Yet at the same time, we experience a profound gratitude for the gift of their 21 years of compassionate ministry serving the poor in the city. Please take time to thank God for the inspired ministry of the Wood’s and we encourage you to offer your own words of gratitude and encouragement.

But what happens now? Let us clearly state, at Knox we remain firmly committed to loving the city, especially the poor, in word and deed. A team of the Knox Elder leadership plan to meet with KYDFB volunteers from Knox to discuss and discern next steps, exploring what it would take to fill the leadership gap, while we also stretch to meet current safety standards and the PCC Leading with Care policy. As soon as a transition plan is formulated, it will be communicated to our congregation.

In the meantime, please keep Bill and Vicki in your prayers, as well as the KYDFB community and core of volunteers as they receive and process this news. Pray also for wisdom among Knox leadership and KYDFB volunteers as next steps are discerned together.

On behalf of Session,
following Jesus together,
Ray Chin (Clerk of Session)
Phil Reinders (Senior Minister)
