Voices: Paul and Ali

Paul: “Every time my grandfather prayed he would open his prayer with Psalm 103, which is ‘bless the lord, oh my soul; all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the lord, oh my soul and forget not all his benefits.’ It was always the way he led, any time we were saying grace before a meal, or whatever it was, that’s always what [his prayer] was. Ali never met my grandfather but I think it reflected his general approach for life; that he was thankful and grateful and understood the good things that God gave him in his life. He came from Russia in the 30s to Canada. [He did that prayer] as far back as I can remember, so that’s since the early eighties. It probably goes back before then.”

Ali: “We decided to have the psalm at our wedding – it was one of the two pieces of scripture that was read. Paul and I are both really blessed to come from long lines of faithful Christian families. We can look back and see many Aunts and Uncles, grandparents and beyond who were really great examples of faith. So that was one way to pay tribute to that and to appreciate that depth that we’d come from.”
