Voices: Sue & Tim

We’re beginning a new series featuring testimonies from the people of this community, starting with Sue and Tim, who have exciting news:

Tim: “We just got engaged!”
Sue: “Yay!”

Tim: “Being in a real, committed relationship is more about serving the other person than what you get from them—which is kind of opposite from what our culture wants us to think. When you walk with someone through hard times you realize that it’s more about how you can serve them. And, in turn, they serve you. That’s the way to truly be happy in a relationship, even though it’s harder and doesn’t always look the most glamourous.”

Sue: “Thinking along the same lines, Phil told us to read Tim Keller’s The Meaning of Marriage. Tim talks about marriage as a picture of Christ and the church and how God refines us through that relationship. We’re not married yet, but I’ve already seen that. It was one of those things where I realized: this is good, this is where I want to be, need to be, where God has called me to be. I could see that refining happening already, sometimes in ways that weren’t necessarily easy, especially when you’re in a Christ-centred relationship! Like getting called out in love and thinking, ‘I didn’t want to see that about myself!’ But it’s been good learning to trust God in that.”
