Come to church, it’ll break your heart!
Jesus doesn’t care for your carefully cultivated composure. He wants your broken and contrite heart.
Stay at church long enough and you’ll experience the effects of death, divorce, and a dizzying array of brokenness and betrayal.
Your heart will break because of this brokenness. Your heart will break because you can’t hide from your own selfishness or pride in the communities that God forms.
But your heart will also break because of God’s deep love, grace and forgiveness. In your weakness, he is strong. In your humility, he displays his power. The poor, the mourning, the meek get Jesus’ richest blessings in God’s upside-down economy. In this strange place called church brokenness is a prerequisite for wholeness, reconciliation and joy.
Come to church, it’ll break your heart.
