Last week, the residents of Knox House for 2015/2016 moved into their new home. Knox House is a authentic example of living in community, and the broader Knox community is excited to welcome (and re-welcome) this group of young people into our midst. This is part one of a two part introduction to the Knox House family.
Roydon is currently a doctoral student in music composition at the University of Toronto. Born in Hong Kong, he received his Bachelors in Composition from the University of British Columbia and his Masters just recently from the University of Toronto. This past year, Roydon has travelled to several cities across North America and to Hong Kong to witness performances of his compositions. He believes that music can be a visceral experience that inspires positive social action, as well as draw us closer to God through the revealing of beauty and awe in God’s creation. This is his 2nd year at Knox house, and he looks forward to meeting new friends and being part of another exciting year in Toronto!
Bella is a third-year undergraduate student studying Industrial Engineering at University of Toronto. She comes from Shanghai, China and came to Toronto two years ago to pursue her studies. From February, 2014, Bella felt drawn to Knox and started attending Knox regularly. This summer she is supported by Knox World Mission to work as an Intern with Josiah Venture in evangelical summer camps in Latvia. With a heart to learn, grow and serve together with Knox community in more ways, Bella is excited to join Knox house community this year. She hopes to develop and contribute her spiritual gifts to this Christ-centred student community to advance the kingdom of God. She loves reading, travelling, experimenting in the kitchen and learning different cultures.
Knox has been Katie’s home in Toronto since she moved here in 2008. Katie had the privilege of growing up in Asia where her parents were missionaries. She would miss the Philippines and Singapore more if Toronto weren’t so conveniently multicultural. This will be Katie’s second year as staff with the missions organization TEAM. Her role with them is to support people as they explore God’s invitation to cross cultural service. You can find her most days at her desk in the Missions Hub. She is also a student of political science at Glendon, York University and serves at Knox as an elder. She is excited to spend a year with the community at Knox House!
Anson is currently going into his fourth and final year of study of his undergraduate architecture and human geography studies at the university of Toronto. Originating from Hong Kong, Anson now enjoys his eighth year in Canada and his second year with Knox and looks forward to growing in faith and fellowship in the following year!
Rachel hails from beautiful BC and moved from Chilliwack to pursue her calling as a deafblind intervenor in Toronto. She is extremely passionate about deafblindness and is excited to be in her final year of her program at George Brown College. Languages are another love of hers and she enjoys practicing her French, Spanish and American Sign Language with others. Rachel is always up for spending time with people, whether cooking, crafting, playing a game or chatting over a cup of tea. Rachel started attending Knox in October 2014 and immediately connected to the community; she is so grateful for a church that made it hard to leave and live in Chilliwack for the summer. Rachel is looking forward to a new season at Knox House and is excited to see how God will work in her life as she connects and “does life” in her Knox community.
Stay tuned for the other members of Knox House in 2015/16!
